Your own photo calendar
This Christmas we created a unique present for friends and family which also enabled us to share some photos of our travels in Europe during 2008. A calendar with pictures of something you’re interested in is always a useful present so we made one of us! (and some nice scenery)
Now that most of us use digital cameras we’re less likely to print and preserve our pictures so calendars or other photo gifts are a nice way of sharing your travels and experiences.
There are lots of companies that will print calendars with your photos and the pricing structure works in different ways. You can go into a supermarket photo centre where they will make a CD of your photos and the calendars will be delivered to the store for a flat rate starting from about £8.50 each. Alternatively you can create and order the calendars online. Some websites charge a set-up fee to create a file of your photos which they keep for future orders.
We chose Vistaprint for the best pricing structure for our order – price per item decreases the more you order – and because the calendar design was good. We upgraded to glossy card for higher picture quality.
The calendar was fairly easy to order online and took about half an hour altogether. The difficult part was choosing the photographs! Each month’s picture needs to be uploaded separately. Captions can be added but that reduces the size of the picture slightly. Ordering and payment is as easy as most online shopping sites and delivery charges are reasonable – we paid under £10 to receive 10 calendars in 3 days.
The finished product is really pleasing for the cost and work involved. You must bear in mind that no editing takes place of the photos so the colours are not totally true as they appear on your computer screen. Our pictures came out slightly darker than we expected but the quality of the glossy paper makes up for this so the photos are still impressive. Delivery was prompt and the overall quality of the calendars is totally professional and consistent.
