Where are Pumbaa and the Marmottes?
We’ve had some beautiful weather…and some horrible wind and rain. It changes so quickly in the mountains - although the forecasts are generally pretty accurate. Since my sunny walk in Seytroux last week (some new photos in the gallery) it’s been mostly rain and watching the snow disappear. Actually, yesterday was the first time this year that I’ve been really excited to see snow - there was enough to cover the grass and tarmac and just about turn the trees white.
I was also excited the other day to see movement outside the house where Simon had his snowpark. Three big deer-type animals were making their way across the open space. I still haven’t managed to work out if they were chamois - a kind of goaty-antelope that’s good at drying cars. I didn’t get a photo unfortunately - no camera to hand and too slow with my phone. They heard us scramble to get a good look, stopped and stared for a few seconds, before running away, realising they were heading for the road and running back past the side of the chalet. I’m still hoping to see a wild boar like Pumbaa and a marmotte (later on of course because they’re all sleeping now)
Simon’s been snowboarding with Russell and his 10 year old son who are staying here for a few nights; meanwhile I went for a really interesting walk. Joyce, a Dutch lady, has had a chalet near to Rab’s for over 17 years so she knows her way around the village and could tell me about lots of the buildings. Many in this area, like the one we’re staying in, are converted from farms and only a small proportion of the house is accomodation, while the rest is still barn or livestock space.
I took loads of photos with my camera the other daybut can’t work out how to rotate them without losing half the picture so they’ll have to come later…

Oh dear, all that lovely snow in the earlier pics - gone!
