This is cold!
It’s definitely much colder and snowier here than last year. I looked through our 2008 photos and only once did we get so much snow at 1000 metres where we park. When we woke up 2 days ago and checked the temperature inside the campervan it was -6°!! If someone had told me that number before we came I’m not sure if the prospect would have been so attractive but still, we’re doing fine and keeping warm enough.
To give an idea of how that feels - our olive oil in the storage space under the seat is frozen and the 5 litre bottles of water we keep in the back of the van are freezing solid if we leave them there for more than a few hours. Even inside the van the bottles don’t totally thaw out.
There are a couple of extra items we need to live in a motorhome in these even-more-extreme conditions. A small stepladder to allow us to totally clear the roof of snow, some silicone sealant to reinforce the seams of metal panels and prevent water ingress, some carpet or insulation for the floor as that’s mainly where the cold gets in. We’ll definitely need a bigger shovel if the snow continues - we;ve just got a nifty little fold-up spade! We’re already using an extra sleeping bag on the bed, where last year a duvet was sufficient. And, despite being unreliable, the generator is essential. Without it we’d have to be driving in the snow a lot more to charge the batteries, and spending more time at campsites.
