Marbella and the caves of Nerja
Our week of luxurious living in Marbella has now come to a close. We’re back in the van on beach-side parking in San Pedro De Alcantara, a spot that was recommended to us by fellow motorhomers back in Portugal. There is a great place to have a shower underneath an elephant’s trunk on the beach!
Last night we all went out for a nice meal in a quaint village just up the coast from Marbella. The restaurant was packed to the rafters when we first walked past but by the time we’d taken a look at the other restaurants on offer they had enough space to fit us in. It wasn’t easy deciding where to eat but the popularity of this one place seemed like a good enough indicator. It turned out to be a great choice; the food, the service; everything got top marks from me. My main course of pork fillet with mushroom sauce and a side serving of Roquefort sauce was sublime. Definitely up there on my list of top 10 dishes ever eaten!
On Friday we visited Cuevas De Nerja (caves of Nerja). I’ve been itching to go in some caves or down an old mine, so this little excursion was right up my street. Upon entering the caves I wasn’t too impressed, the recorded sounds of dripping water irritated me then the photographer girl that took your picture upon entering the first cavern couldn’t stop chatting loudly on her noisy radio. That was quickly forgotten once we walked into the main cavern.
The stalactites and stalagmites were pretty impressive in the first cavern but only babies compared to the monsters to be found in the main cavern. Unfortunately due to the very low lighting and flash restrictions we didn’t manage to taken any photos that did the huge structures justice.
The rest of the time was spent in the apartment making use of the endless supply of electricity and internet, occasionally taking a few hours out to chill by the pool.
Tomorrow we drive into Malaga to pick up Sam from the airport. Sam is staying with us in the awning for 10 days. The Telefonica kite pro competition is being held in Tarifa on the 2nd July so that’s where we’ll be spending the next 10 days.
