Lost Without Our Van

One of the disadvantages of living in a campervan is that when you have to leave your vehicle somewhere - you’ve left your home too!  The van’s at the garage to have the wheel judder and handbrake looked at, so we’re at a bit of a loose end.

We dropped the van off at 8am this morning - a very early start for us and it was surprisingly cold.  We explained that we would need the van back tonight and I’m a bit disappointed that, having booked us in over a week ago, the man at the garage said he wouldn’t have time today to look at the handbrake.  He’s going to check the tyres and balance on all the wheels.

At 8am there were already a few keen skiers on the slopes, but very little else was open - even the weekly market wasn’t totally up and running!  We had to wait until 9 for the laundrette to open, then until 10 for the internet cafe, where we are now.  I think staying in bed until after 9 like we do usually is the best thing to do - waiting for the sun to warm things up.

There’s a conference at the sports centre next weekend and they’ll be setting up marquees in the car park so we have to move on.  I believe we’re allowed to park on the other side of the river, near the tennis courts while this is happening.  We should be able to get an internet signal from there using Simon’s vegetable steamer dish, but the connection isn’t working at the moment!  If we get the van sorted we’ll de-camp to Les Prodains for a few days.  It’ll be good to board right back down to the van - recently we’ve been getting the bus back into Morzine from there which is very uncivilised compared to a cold beer at the van 2 minutes after our final run!
