Leaving Tarifa
Our last day in Tarifa has passed and it’s time to move on. We’re making a short stop in Barcelona to visit a friend on holiday there, and then continuing north through France. More…
We would have started our journey yesterday, but there was the promise of a little wind so we hung on in there, having sat waiting on the beach the previous day without even inflating the kite. Sure enough it picked up in the early afternoon and Simon managed a decent session on the water. Obviously that means the kite is fixed after its mishap - it’s amazing what sail-repairers can do. Dock 11 in Tarifa repaired it within a day and a half and it was difficult to spot the repairs. A relief as, looking at it lying flat out, soaking wet on the beach with a gaping hole, I thought it had met an untimely end!
Another slight setback has occurred since we posted about our Kipor generator being a good value purchase….It’s stopped working. The motor still runs but we don’t get any electricity from it. Speaking to the dealer in the UK who we bought it from it seems that the inverter may have failed. As this is the part which converts the current to 240 volts it would certainly explain why we can no longer charge the mobile phones and laptops, as well as the leisure battery which powers the van’s internal lights and, importantly, the fan for temperature control. It’s lucky that we’ll be driving a lot in the next few days as we can charge the leisure battery when the engine is running, but it’s an inconvenience we hadn’t reckoned on and will need a visit to the supplier in Derbyshire.
That’s all our news. We’ll be in the Netherlands by Wednesday for Lowlands music festival. It was a fantastic event last year, but the line-up of bands is not so impressive this time around. Even so I’m sure we’ll have a great time – even if it will be cold and possibly raining which we’re just not used to!
