We have electricity again, I fixed the generator!
As you may be aware, our Kipor generator was on the blink. It was generating 12 volts ok but not 230 volts so the common concensus was that the inverter pack was at fault. We looked around and at a push we could order a spare inverter pack for around £120 (still can’t make contact with Peak Generators). It was down to me to fit the thing!
So I thought I would take the generator apart before we forked out the money for the new inverter, just in case it could be fixed and to make sure I could successfully dismantle and reassemble it. Taking the outer casing off wasn’t TOO difficult. I just had to unscrew the front panel where the sockets are, unscrew the exhaust, unscrew about 3 screws on each side and then take off two small clips.
I disconnected the inverter which was quite easy as all the wires plugged together with unique male and female type electrical plugs. All of the connections were very dirty with dust and grass from windy Tarifa and there were no fuses or anything that looked damaged so I just cleaned up the part and plugged it back in.
The generator took a while longer to reassemble as it was quite fiddly but nothing too difficult. It started second time and seemed to be generating 230v! I couldn’t believe my luck. Plugged it into the van just to make sure it had enough power to charge up the van and run a laptop and everything seemed great.
So hopefully that’s that. Just need to give it a longer test just to be double sure everything is ok.

Hiya, just came across your blog whilst searching for gaslow. funny coincidence is that I too kitesurf (and snowboard) and use my motorhome quite regularly. There is a big crowd of us who park up at the beach at Borth ( north west wales ) most weekends and a few of us are heading for europe for a longish holiday this summer.
I have done the alps a few years running in the van for the snow trips but only ever for a week / 10 days so my 2 calor propane have always lasted. But will need a gaslow system for the longer trip this year.
Anyway, on top of that, I live near Matlock where Peak Generators are based. I too have a kipor generator from them, so if you want me to ‘bang’ on the door and get some response for your problem I would be willing to assist a fellow kiteboarder.
Cheers and enjoy your trip
Mark
