Digital helmet cameras (Oregon Scientific ATC3K)
The other day when in Sheffield we stumbled upon a Decathalon sports shop. We’ve been in one of these stores while in Spain and we know they have a massive range, stocking all kings of kit for kiteboarding, windsurfing, fishing, snowboarding, the list just goes on and on. Anyway, while in there we noticed a helmet cam. I’m not sure of the manufacturer but the price was around £100. What better thing to spend Christmas present money on.
While snowboarding last year I tried on a number of occasions to use my digital photo camera to take short video clips of me doing some small jumps and generally just bombing down the slopes. It wasn’t easy, whenever I tried to stop at speed the cloud of snow got into the lens cover; to hold and operate the camera I had to take off a glove and I just couldn’t concentrate on snowboarding while trying to aim a camera and keep it safe.
A helmet camera solves all those problems. I researched it some more on the internet and found a few helmet cams on eBay and Amazon. The ones from Oregon Scientific stood out most to me. They have a nice price tag of just under £100, have decent enough quality for some non professional extreme sports footage and are waterproof up to 3 meters which would also make the camera ideal for water sports footage such as kitesurfing.
In specific the Oregon Scientific ATC3k seems the best camera to go with as it supercedes the older ATC2K and now supports double the memory (4 GB SD card) which gives up to 2 hours footage.

I’m about to purchase one of these babies right now! Expect some snowboarding footage next month.
