Back to UK reality

Since we returned to the UK in August (was it really that long ago?!) we’ve been busy working hard and blogging very little. Now I thought an update was well over due as we look toward the new year.

I had planned to get some temporary work and started doing the rounds of the employment agencies offering my services for … anything really! But, when I visited my supermarket-employer to inform them I wasn’t intending to return, they made me a great offer. So Simon and I have both found ourselves working 12 hour night shifts, catching up with friends and family and working on IT and web-development projects when we’re not sleeping the daylight away!

On our return to the UK we parked in my sister’s garden in Kimmeridge for a week, making the most of the end of the summer holidays to catch up with family. Then we made a mini tour of the country with Simon’s daughter, Shannon, staying on small campsites in Rotherham and Bridgnorth and visiting Wolverhampton, Barnsley and Manchester before taking Shannon home to Morecambe.

After these extra ‘holidays’ it was time to get serious and we were kindly accommodated on the driveway of our friends, Jenny and Paul, while applying for jobs and looking for somewhere to live.

We’re living in Lytchett Matravers near Poole, renting a self-contained room with ensuite bathroom and kitchen facilities. Most importantly there’s space to park the van right outside and wifi internet access. It’s small but there’s not much floor to keep clean which suits us perfectly! In my house in Poole the tenants have been happy for the year and plan to sign for another 6 month’s rental period.

Christmas was lovely – a mixture of major relaxation and being spoilt, with hectic driving around getting everyone to where they needed to be. In 6 days we covered – Poole to Wolverhampton, to Sheffield, Morecambe and back to Sheffield, Wombwell near Barnsley for a night, back to Sheffield then Wolverhampton, then heading home with a stop-off in Southampton! Thanks to everyone for their hospitality, especially Aunty Linda and Gwen for having us for a fantastic Christmas.

Our best wishes to everyone for a very Happy New Year that fulfils all your hopes and dreams!
