An update
We’ve been a bit quiet but that’s because we’ve been busy! No more work for us since 21/12 = time to get ourselves sorted for departure. I thought I’d better keep the record up to date…
We’ve got most of our documentation sorted in the way of -
- motorhome insurance - with Safeguard - a good deal I think at just over £300 including European breakdown cover
- EHIC cards
- replacement driving licences for both of us and passport for me
- a spanking new current account with Nationwide - the only one with FREE purchases and cash withdrawal abroad
- a CCI - camping card international which can be left at campsite reception in lieu of a passport
We still have to finalise travel insurance - obviously essential for medical cover but it’s tricky to find the right cover - allowing us to be away for an extended period of time, doing winter sports, without making us pay for cover for cancelled flights or late departures! We also have to make copies of all documentation to be kept in our UK ‘HQ’ in case of disaster! This is a very sensible suggestion from ‘Go Motorhoming Europe’ which is our bible right now.
There are two main issues outstanding that will keep us from leaving ASAP. One is finding a tenant for the house - it’s not the best time of year to be letting and it looks as though the furniture will need to go into storage as there’s more demand for unfurnished properties. The second is the fact that the gas heating isn’t working on the van. Where is everyone? On holidays or something?!! Hopefully this will be solved by the seller of the van or the manufacturers, Propex, as the heating was serviced right before we bought the van in October.
Other than these two small obstacles we’re almost, nearly ready Kitted out with my new snowboard and all protective gear needed. And since yesterday I have lots of very technical socks - thanks everyone! The stereo system in the van is coming along nicely and will be finished in no time now that Christmas and work are out of the way. We’ve got a really pretty head unit with lots of lights that fully controls the Ipod - very important. And will have an arrangement of 6 speakers and an amp all running from the leisure battery. More about this to follow I’m sure.
Well I thought that sounded like good progress but I’ve just looked back at our last list of jobs to do and I think I’d better get to sleep ready to tackle some of those tomorrow!
Happy Christmas to all
