A Great Night Out and A Day Wasted
As the days go by the swelling has gone down on Simon’s poor dislocated finger. He’s keeping it splinted straight to give it time to heal and protect it from painful knocks, but it can bend a little and doesn’t look like it’s going to explode any more. In the meantime I’m realising how much Simon did as now I have to put the generator on and fill the petrol, make the bed up and put it away twice a day – and even tie up his snowboarding boots!
It was our first time back on the slopes yesterday and we were both a bit worried about THE FINGER! I felt like I had taken a child to a play park and needed to watch that he didn’t hurt himself. Meanwhile Simon was quite aware that he didn’t want to use that hand for getting up or breaking a fall, which made some amusement for me watching him slide to the ground in slow motion at one point, holding his hand safely above his head.
On Tuesday after we left the campsite we did some shopping, then headed to Les Prodains (as there’s still no internet so nothing keeping us in Morzine). Arriving at Les Prodains as the day’s skiers were leaving we were spotted by some friends from last year. Sarah and Mike, who started the season in a converted ambulance and finished it as chalet hosts in a luxury chalet, were picking up guests. They have been here all season and seen our van, but never with us in it. As Wednesdays are traditionally rest days for chalet hosts they were planning to be out that night and invited us along.
Steele and Julie didn’t need asking twice so we all drove back to Morzine. We pass ‘Le Garage’ bar/pub every time we drive between our favourite car park and the town but had never been there – despite it being THE seasonnaires hot spot. It’s apparently closing down after this season so it was almost our last opportunity to be there or be square. As it turned out Sarah and Mike were delayed at work and didn’t make it! We had a good night though – we must have done because there was a little bit of dancing and that does NOT happen!
We paid for our enjoyment the next day when Simon and I were absolutely good for nothing. At all. Whatsoever.
Back on the slopes yesterday and the warm weather is taking it’s toll on the snow. Coupled with the huge amount of people that descended on (or ascended to) Avoriaz last weekend it’s getting really slushy and rather thin in places. Still, bumpy and slushy is slightly better on the knees than bumpy and hard. But the crowds aren’t much fun as they don’t behave in a very British way in the queue and it makes me mad! We still managed a few runs and no damage was done.
