A drive to Thonon-Les-Bains
We awoke this morning with the intention of heading to the slopes for a few hours some time after mid day. Once 2pm approached, we both decided we didn’t have the energy for snowboarding today so decided on a trip to Thonon-Les-Bains to fill up on LPG, spend the night in a campsite and take a look at Lac Leman.
Lac Leman (lake Geneva) is a massive lake that sits half in France and half in Switzerland, with its south-westerly tip in Geneva. Once we arrived in Thonon-Les
-Bains and found our first campsite closed we decided to take a detour along the side of the lake. We arrived at the lake just in time, the sun was low in the sky, the light was low and the horizon hazy. There were some great picture opportunities. It’s a shame we couldn’t spend some more time there, but we still had to find a campsite to spend the night at! We will definitely be back to Thonon-Les-Bains in April when it’s a little warmer (a pretty warm 14º today though) and I may even go for a swim next time.
After another failed attempt at finding an open campsite, our third on the list was successful. It was open, full of caravans and not a motorhome in site. We couldn’t find a reception but thankfully managed to find a Portuguese man that assisted us in finding what seemed like the owner of the campsite.
So finally we’re parked in a campsite, hooked up to the electricity and hopefully tomorrow will be able to fill up our fresh water tank.
