A day with Tanc in the Burton Stash
We started the day with the intention of going to Cluses to refill our LPG. We changed over to our second gas bottle about a week ago, so a refill was well overdue. Since we knew it was Tanc’s day off work and this was his first chance to snowboard in 2 months we decided to text him to see if he fancied meeting up for a few hours of snowboarding. It’s great to snowboard with other people, so we thought if Tanc was up for it then we would risk leaving the LPG trip until another day.
After a text, then a quick telephone call we thought we’d arranged to meet Tanc up in Avoriaz, on the slopes, after we’d eaten breakfast and got our gear on in the Prodains car park. When we arrived at the car park Tanc was waiting for us! So with no time for breakfast or warming our boots we quickly got our gear on and headed up the mountain.
After taking our usual route into Avoriaz it was decided that we would take a few runs through the Stash. The Stash is somewhat like a natural snowpark in the trees. There are many different routes you can take, with an assortment of tree trunk rails, jumps and hips.
Since Lucy wasn’t hitting any of the rails or jumps she was on camera duty and took some very good shots. Tanc and I fell quite a few times, but it was an enjoyable session, and I did many different rails and things I have never done before due to having Tanc there to spur me on.
We then made our way back through Avoriaz and stopped at the shop for some food. This is not something we normally do but as we hadn’t had time to prepare any lunch or even breakfast we thought it was justified. Tanc also contributed some goodies and a proper feast was had by all. With bellies full we decided to take it easy from then on in.
Our new friend Amairie was working on the Proclou lift and invited us back to his van in the Avoriaz car park for a glass of wine and a chat after snowboarding. We didn’t stay long as Tanc was keen to get home to his girlfriend. So we snowboarded the short run through Avoriaz village in the dark, to get the cable car down to the car park. Snowboarding in the dark was a new experience; it wasn’t all that much fun though, as the run hadn’t been groomed yet so it was pretty lumpy and bumpy.
